Many of our friends and family are embarking on a great adventure. They have decided to place their presence on the web. They share personal things, such as pictures of the grandkids as they grow, for distant grandparents, their own interests and hobbies, and other items that they feel are either of interest to them or others. I have some friends that are building a home, and they have begun a small web site where they post pictures of the progress as it takes place. They began with pictures of the property and views and have just posted pictures of a cleared driveway and the clearing for their home. They can now stand right in the spot where their back deck will be and post a picture of the view from there. Another good use for this web space is to share your family with your friends and relatives. My nephew and his wife live across the country from my mother and he has two children. They post updated pictures regularly so that my mother can see her grandchildren grow up, regardless of the distances involved. I’m sure you can think of other good uses that you can put your web space to.
With a Wilblue Satellite internet account, this is now within your reach, and they make it as easy or hard as you wish it to be. If you have opted for the Value Pak, you are entitled to 10MB of web space, plenty to post some pictures and updates regarding your daily life and interests. If you opted for the Pro Pak, you are entitled to 20MB of web space, more than enough to create your own space on the web.
WildBlue Corporation also gives you two ways to publish. One is to use a step by step program they provide called ‘Page Producer’, a simple program that will walk you through the process. If you are a bit more knowledgeable at putting together web sites, or have a coding program you wish to use, use it instead. Publishing your own creation will be via FTP. Your web address will also be short and to the point, not one of these long convoluted addresses that some internet providers would have you use. The address will be http://pageproducer.wildblue.net/username/index.html. As you can see, a very manageable address.
To access this tool and/or your web space, simply navigate to your WildBlue Portal, click on “Build Web Pages” on the left hand side of your portal and get to work. The web space is there for the taking. Don’t let it go to waste. Show and Tell, there are people out there that are interested.
