The Super Bowl Gets An Online Connection

More and more people are turning to an online internet connection in order to get their daily fix of television and even movies.  It is easier than ever now to

Super Bowl's Online Connectionwatch programs you may have missed, on your laptop or tablet computer.  And in a first for this year, even the Super Bowl  was broadcasted live over high speed internet.

The actual airing of the Super Bowl changes each year among the big four networks such as ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox.  This year the game aired on NBC and officials with the network announced that the game was also going to be shown online as well.  In addition to the Super Bowl, all postseason games on the peacock network such as a wild card game and the all-star game are also going to be shown online.

Traditionally, the Super Bowl is the highest rated event each year.  In fact, the Super Bowl has broken viewership records the last three years including the fact that the 2010 game trumped the famous series finale of MASH to become the most watched event ever.  This year there was an opportunity for even more eyeballs to watch the game since it was online.  This opened the game to those who may have been at work and didn’t have access to a television.  It was also there for those in a remote region who didn’t have cable or satellite and didn’t have easy access to an NBC signal over the air.  In addition, there are a lot of Americans living overseas who also wanted to see the game and this year they had access like they have never had before.

Of course, some of the best things about the Super Bowl are the ads.  While a lot of people tune in for the game, the ads are also important as well with advertisers paying up to $3.5 million for a thirty second spot.  However, this year the internet broadcast had its own ad stream.  In fact, it even featured ads which were not seen on the traditional television side.  However, most officials were banking on the fact that when advertisers purchased an ad for television, they would also want their ad to be seen online as well.  While there have been no costs released by officials for advertising online during the big game, it was bound to be significantly cheaper than the television side.  However, when an ad airs on TV and not online in future games, there is no reason to fret.  NBC, or whoever hosts the big game, will have a feature that viewers can click on to see the ad as soon as it has aired on television.

This move is sure to pave the way for more live events such as award shows and other big sporting events, such as the World Series, to be streamed through a high-speed online connection.  Officials realize that a lot of people now watch television in a different manner than ever before and are beginning to change their overall thinking.
