Has anyone noticed that Google seems to be going up against major competitors in pretty much any industry that has anything to do with the internet? In one of my business classes it was recently mentioned that Nokia was asked if they were worried about Google when they first entered the mobile phone market. According to the class presentation Nokia said that they did not consider Google a competitor within the mobile market. Wow, what a mistake that was right? So, what is Google’s next move? They seem to be trying to figure out a way to actually be a provider of internet service. Although, I have to admit I don’t understand the direction in which they seem to be going.
This is a preview of

E-book readers seem to be the talk of the town these days, so I thought they would be worthy of a blog article. It seems as if every technology related company is producing some version of an e-book reader including companies like Google, Sony, Microsoft, Amazon, and of course Apple. In general these tablets are great products if you have access to High Speed Internet. If this is not the case you may be severely handicapped as some of their features will not work well without broadband access. However, if you are equipped with fast internet access and you are interested in one of these nifty gadgets the question you are probably asking is which one should I get? Obviously Apple’s iPad is probably getting the most attention
these days, as its feature set extends beyond that of just an e-reader into something closer to a full blown personal computer.

Anyone who has been around for a while has surely heard of audio books, or as we used to call them “books on tape”. These are a

formidable audio medium for people on the go who don’t have the time to sit and read a good book, but still enjoy the pleasures of hearing flax-golden tales spun. With the addition of high speed Internet people now don’t have to just listen to the story of their choice just in their car or wherever they happen to have their “tape player”, (if they even make those anymore) as now the millions of

In my attempt to write an article about the satellite Internet availability on every continent I do not want to leave out our most southern neighbor. So, this blog post is indeed going to be about satellite Internet service in Antarctica. I am sure many of you are asking yourselves right now, “Does anyone even live in Antarctica?” Although there are no permanent residents on the continent, there are usually anywhere from 1,000 to 5,000 people living on the continent throughout the year conducting research. As you might expect it is crucial for these researchers to have access to a fa
st and dependable Internet connection in order to send and receive data crucial to their research findings. A dependable communication source is also crucial to the survival of these researchers. Unfortunately, the traditional satellite Internet services that we are familiar with are not accessible in the Arctic circle. Yes, this means no WildBlue or Hughesnet, very sad…I know. However, all hope is not lost. There are several companies that have dedicated their entire business model to provide Internet access to such people as researches in Antarctica. These are the same types of satellite Internet services offered to shipping companies or sailors that need Internet access while on the water.

If you’re a fan of living in “the sticks”, but live too far out to meet anyone new besides the lady or man behind the counter at the only gas station in town, trust me my friends, you are not alone. Websites like match.com and eharmony, just to name a couple have hooked up millions upon millions of once self-proclaimed “lonely people”. Contrary to a wide held belief that these kinds of dating sites are filled with the ugliest of the ugly, the dumbest of the dumb, and the most desperate of the desperate in reality this is simply not true.

Through my years of strife and struggle I have come to realize an almost universal truth; most people would prefer to do as little as they can to obtain as much as possible. Sure this sounds lazy, but it’s the American way. People and companies alike are always trying to find the most efficient, easiest solution to any given problem. That doesn’t mean cutting corners necessarily, it just means that we want to cut out any unnecessary steps involved in the process. For example, a person who buys and sells on ebay for a living but doesn’t have access to a high speed connection has a couple choices: either drive down to a WIFI hot-spot somewhere in town and essentially work from their car ( which cost gas money, is probably uncomfortable, and is maybe even a little degrading). Or they could visit mybluedish.com, who provides high speed Internet to the rural areas of America, talk to a representative on the telephone about the specifics, and set a date to have their own high speed connection installed at their home. This will, I promise you, increase your productivity and by having a high speed connection at home one would be more inclined to further research other avenues of financial gain just because it’s now there at home and not many miles away. Buying and selling products on ebay is just one example of the many possibilities available to make money on the Internet. Having access to high speed Internet can open up a world of financial opportunity.

If you’re one of the “baby-boomer” generation cats then you either know the power of having high speed Internet or you’re completely oblivious to its wonders. Now, even being a younger man, born in the mid-eighties, I am somewhat ashamed, but have a new found respect for the website Facebook.com. I’ve worked in the Internet marketing business for about a decade now, and during that time my relationship with the Internet has been one of strictly business. Honestly, I was afraid to open myself up socially through Facebook because I knew that all someone had to do to find me, at least a digital copy of me, was to look up my name and hometown. I was afraid of being inundated with “friend requests” from all those who knew me in the past, either true friends or merely associates, who would no doubt be offended by my not responding to said requests. And certainly my goals were not to hurt anyone’s feelings, but in the end my curiosity got the best of me and I took the dive into the social networking that is available through high speed Internet connections and websites such as Myspace and Facebook.

Online gaming is one of the fastest growing trends in the world right now. With games such as Runescape boasting subscriber numbers of around a million and World of Warcraft exceeding 7 million active members, the total number of MMOG subscriptions is verging on the absurd, quickly approaching the 14 million mark worldwide [6/06, mmogchart.com]. This tremendous growth in the popularity of the online gaming industry has, in part, been fueled by the accessibility of high-speed broadband internet. A high-speed connection allows for a much more enjoyable game-play experience. Everyone knows that online games work exceptionally well on DSL and Cable internet connections, but what about the newer high-speed service, satellite internet?

Continuing on our Satellite Internet Around the World Series, we want to visit Satellite Broadband on the Australian Outback. As would be expected there is a relatively large market for rural high-speed internet solutions given the immense size of the country in addition to the fact that a large portion of the country has not been highly developed. This also leads to higher degree of competition between satellite internet service providers compared to what is present in most countries. An added benefit to Australian citizens is the fact that the Australian Government has publicized an Australian Broadband Guarantee that makes service subscriptions cheaper for many citizens.
