Travelling With Satellite Internet Service

Traveling With Satellite Internet ServiceSome friends and I are planning a trip to New York in a couple of months and I have started looking at things to do as well as cheap flights, city tours etc.  I just started thinking ,wow, how hard would all of this trip planning be if I still only had dial-up internet.  The way things are, I can find the cheapest flight, book my flight, print my ticket all from my computer.  I can also schedule the exact city tour I need to see exactly what I want to see while I am in New York in what seems to be the short amount of time we will be there.  Even more exciting I can find great deals on Broadway shows.  If I still had dial-up I actually don’t know that I would ever get to go because it would take up too much of my time to plan for the trip.  That is actually a little bit of a joke, but there is a lot of since in it.  How did we ever survive in our daily lives without high-speed internet access, let alone plan for major trips and vacations.

Update On WildBlue Optimizer Testing

Friday, November 5th, 2010

I finally ran the WildBlue Optimizer on my test drive. I will admit to a small amount of hesitation as I have my operating system running very nicely and I have an aversion to looking a gift horse or operating system in the mouth.

After I reminded myself that I was “Beta Testing” I jumped right in and ran the WildBlue Optimizer. It installed flawlessly. It placed the Portal, Help and WB Mail icons on the desktop and made the other changes listed in the “Read Me” file.

Overcome Hard Times With High Speed Internet

Single parents and low income families can now apply for benefits to receive food stamps, unemployment, student loans and just about every other kind of state or federally funded aide program via high speed Internet.  These kinds of programs can play a pivotal role in maintaining the well-being of a family in times of economic stress, and anyone who has had dealings with these agencies know all-to-well how much of a hassle it can be to go back and forth between offices (as their lines are always busy and lobbies forever full). This can be an especially daunting task when one lives in one of the millions of rural areas in America.

Fast Internet For Small Rural Businesses

Monday, September 13th, 2010

So many small business owners, specifically the ones who spend boatloads on making their storefront as attractive as possible, are essentially wasting their money.  If it’s a restaurant or nationwide chain of Super-sized grocery stores, I can see the reasoning behind the expensive signs – the glamor that screams “MY STORE IS BETTER THAN YOURS!” Also, all the businesses who pay to get their name in the local phone book’s yellow pages are also continuing on a downward trial leading to a dying trend.  In other words, they are using ancient marketing techniques and expecting modern day results while at the same time paying futuristic prices.

WiMax and Mifi vs Satellite Internet

Wimax Compared To Satellite InternetAs many of you may know we have dedicated a couple of articles to comparing wireless technology to satellite internet.  Up until now however, we have not looked at some of the new up and coming technologies that are gaining popularity in the wireless industry.  Two of these technologies are WiMax and Mifi.  In case these terms are new to you I will attempt to offer a brief explanation, as these technologies have not quite made it main stream yet.  Mifi is more or less, a router that utilizes wireless data signal such as 3G or the new 4G technology to connect a network of computers.  It operates in much of the same way your Wi-Fi router would at home except it is more portable.  A Mifi device can operate anywhere you can get a good wireless broadband connection.

Satellite Internet Breaks the Digital Divide

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Satellite Internet Crosses The Digital DivideAs the United States travels from land lines to cell phones, and computers become the rule rather than the exception, there is still a considerable percentage of the rural American population left behind. This gap of technology between corporate America and rural homes is often referred to as the Digital Divide.
