I know this sounds like something right out of Star Wars, but the truth is that we are not far from being able to use holograms as a communication tool as well as a source of media. Imagine watching your favorite television program, except the people are actually walking around your living room. As a matter of fact some television sets are already being equipped with similar capabilities. One of Toshiba’s newest product releases includes a television set that is capable of showing 3D graphics without the use of glasses. Although, this is not quite what we would consider to be holographic viewing it is very close. I heard a discussion just the other day, in which it was predicted that holographic media and communications would be common in households within as early as 10 years.
