Rural Internet Service Is Helping People Buy Homes

Even in today’s tough economy, buying a home is part of the American dream.  By owning a house you have something that you

Rural Internet And The Housing Marketcan call all your own and fix it anyway you would like to.  However, the process of finding the right house and then purchasing it has been drastically changed since internet has been introduced to rural areas through satellite service.  In many cases, rural internet has made the home buying process much better than ever before.

Moving across the country can be a scary thing.  You may not know anything about the region or where you would want to live.  Before the internet you may have had to rent an apartment for a while before finding the right place to settle down.  However, high speed internet has made finding a new place to live much easier than ever before.  Most reputable realtors will have websites complete with pictures and even videos of the properties that they currently have listed on the market.  As a result, prospective home buyers can find what they are looking for even while being hundreds or thousands of miles away.  In addition, there is also plenty of information located on the internet that home buyers can use to determine where they may want to live and which neighborhood will fit them the best.

Even getting a loan is much easier now for people living in remote areas thanks to rural internet.  It used to be that you may need to visit several lending institutions in order to find one that would give you the loan that you needed at a good rate.  However, the same can now be done online with just a few clicks of the mouse.  In fact, home buyers can put their information in and actually have banks and other lending institutions compete to see who can give the consumer the best deal and ultimately win their business.

Broadband internet service has actually given rise to what is being referred to as the ambitious consumer.  This means those who find a house on the internet and will quickly pounce on it.  There have been numerous studies done on this new type of consumer and the results have been fairly interesting. For one, the studies have found that internet buyers purchase a house much more quickly than those who go the traditional route and drive around the neighborhoods looking for the perfect house.  In fact, internet buyers usually settle on a house in just two weeks as compared to an average of seven weeks for the traditional buyer.  After taking a virtual tour, the internet buyer will also only look at an average of six homes with a realtor as compared to almost fifteen homes that a traditional home buyer will examine before making a purchase.

Broadband internet makes our lives much easier and purchasing a home is no different.  It can simplify what has traditionally been a hard and sometimes confusing process.  However, the information superhighway is making home buyers out of a lot of different people and making the process a little less nerve wracking.

  1. Sort of a tangent to your article but I think you may like it blue dish writer. I work at a high speed internet provider in Alberta that provides broadband to rural folks. Now there are some people who get our services before putting their house on the market. It is a selling point.

Again a little off topic but you reminded me with the snatching up of internet listings and all that stuff.

  2. I figured you mentioned everything about in regards to using internet to sell you home from an ease of access standpoint (ie online listings, easy lending etc) but thought i’d throw that at ya

    cheers!
