Music And A Broadband Internet Connection

Broadband Internet And MusicOne of the first aspects of our lives that were touched by broadband internet was music.  How we listen to it, what we listen to and how we purchase music has all been influenced by the advent of internet connections.  From the early days of Napster to today’s iPods, the music industry has been totally and completely changed forever. While there are some who say that many of these impacts have been negative, most consumers would agree that the changes the music industry has seen have had a positive impact.

One of the biggest changes in the music is in the way it is purchased.  CD’s are not cheap and most of the time, there are only a few songs that people want to hear.  As a result, most people have a hard time spending over fifteen dollars for something that they are not going to use all of.  As a result, the internet has provided a better way to purchase music since you can purchase songs one at a time.  That way, music listeners can get exactly what they want to hear without having to spend money on what they don’t want.  This can be an especially good way to purchase music for those who may be on a strict budget, but still want to enjoy some of the little things.

Broadband Internet service has also had a huge influence on the type of music we listen to.  For example, it has been difficult in the past for struggling artists to be heard if they were not signed to a major label.  Even then, they may not be as popular as some other acts.  As a result, there was a lot of great music out there that never got heard.  However, the internet has been changing that.  This is because bands and individual musicians can put their music online and attract an audience without having to first go through the expense of putting together a CD.  As a result, the musicians can gradually build a following.  In addition, many bands have been signed after record executives first saw them online and they have gone on to be major players in the industry.

The introduction of broadband internet connection has also had a huge impact in people’s taste in music.  It is now possible to listen to any genre with just a click of the mouse.  This has exposed music lovers to all types of music from classical to opera, Broadway, rap and everything in between.  The internet also allows us to become more familiar with acts from other countries and from our own back yard.  In fact, a lot of musicians now understand that more and more people are listening to a variety of genres and as a result have produced albums that cross lines from pop to country and everything else all on the same release.

The internet also allows fans to follow their favorite artists more than ever before with blogs and other fan sites dedicated to various artists.  In addition, the internet allows for the artist to be closer to fans by tweeting and Facebook.
